Many PR's and Season's Bests at Pole Green Invitational

Bella S.

A small group of Albemarle Runners headed to Pole Green Park for a 5k race this past weekend. Pole Green is famous for it's fast times and good competition and the girls had a good race against all of the top teams who will be contending for the State title in November. The top 7 raced in the Race of Champions and five other girls made the trip to race in the Emerging Elite category.

Leading the way for our team in the Race of Champions was Jenna Coleman who threw down a PR to place 6th overall in 19:06. This keeps her at #7 PR all time in Albemarle girls cross country history between some of the all time greats at the school! Sophomore Maddie Gypson had a huge race as well running 19:47, 27 seconds faster than her PR from this spring and finally under that elusive 20 minute barrier.

Hanna Guyton ran strong with a big season's best of 21:08 to place 25th overall. She dropped 1:11 from two weeks ago. Sophomore duo Eva Weaver and Savannah Meriwether ran 22:06 and 22:35 for 51st and 58th. They both dropped considerable amounts of time from their season opener at Great Meadows just two weeks ago with Eva running 1:54 faster and Savannah 54 seconds.

The top seven was rounded out by senior Lillian Peskova who in her first 5k of the season ran 23:06. The girls placed 5th overall, within 40 points of all of the biggest competitors in the 5A classification.

In the Emerging Elite race, junior Bella Popovsky led the way for the Patriots in 24:41, also her first 5k of the season. Freshman Emily Uthlaut ran consistently with her huge first race from two weeks ago in 25:09 and 47th place overall. Grace Kohler and Autumn Murphy had the biggest time drops from their season openers with Grace running 2:52 faster and Autumn 2:07!

Autumn set a big PR and they both worked together through the race. Freshman Brooke Blankenship also made the trip up and she ran a strong first 5k with a 27:29 clocking.

The girls will be back in action with a JV meet on Wednesday and the Fork Union Invitational for all on Saturday!
